The Brazilian Acai Berry StoryOver the last five or so years, the Brazilian acai berry has received attention due to research that proves the healthful benefits packed in this small blueberry size fruit. All of the research is astounding that can provide many people with the ability to protect their bodies against all kinds of diseases and ailments while providing their bodies with all the essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants their bodies need. The Brazilian acai berry story begins centuries ago along the shores of the Amazon River and the indigenous tribes that used the small berry to ward off diseases and promote good health. From this time until the Brazilian Acai berry was discovered, it was a secret super food. Today, many scientists have stated the acai berry is in fact a super food that contains high levels of antioxidants that are very effective in fighting off cancer cells. One study utilizing human cancer cells and the acai berry actually showed that the cancer cells began self-destructing after the acai berry was placed in the Petri dish with the leukemia cells. Not only were the results of the study conducted at the University of Florida announced, but another report in 2006 from the of Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry stated that 86% of leukemia cells were destroyed by using acai extract. One statement by Stephen Talcott from Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry the explained the results were not performed on a human host. He went so far to explain that more research is needed since the study was done by using a cell culture model. He wants to be sure that individuals are not provided with a false hope, however, the research is encouraging. Due to this discovery, the Brazilian acai berry fast became very popular throughout the world. The problem was that the acai berry did not have a long shelf life, a matter of fact, once picked the berry only lasted 24 hours. This meant the berry would not last long enough to send it around the world to those that wished to benefit from the amazing fruit. Many companies began working on ways in which to process the Brazilian acai berry to ensure the properties were retained while creating a longer shelf life. This has been accomplished today and you can find all kinds of products that utilize the Brazilian acai berry in the form of juices, gels, pills, supplements, candy, and more. Of course, since no studies have been performed on a human host, the true benefits of the Brazilian acai berry have not been stated. The only good news is that this amazing fruit has all the nutrients, vitamins, and antioxidants needed to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Whether it works in the same way in our bodies as it does in Petri dish has not been determined as our body’s functions differently than the cancer cells in Petri dish.
