Green Chai Tea vs. Traditional Green Teas

People around the globe consume many different types of tea. Europeans have been drinking tea for centuries, and Asians have been taking green tea for millennia. Countries like China, Argentina, Japan, Malaysia, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Malawi, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Tanzania are the main producers and exporters of green tea throughout the whole word. And there are many flavors of green teas as well -- one of which is green chai tea. But what really is this green chai tea fad about? Basically, green chai tea has nothing to do with the original green tea from the eastern countries. It is merely a 21st century creation of western marketing firms. This chai tea is also different from the original chai tea from India and so on, which is where the word "chai" originated in the first place.

Westernized Chai

"Chai" means tea in several languages, and originated from the Indian language. A few of the most famous chais in India are chimney chai, masala chai, milk chai, and so on. Even green chai tea actually 'originated' from India, where it was traditionally served without milk at chai stops and houses all over that country. This particular green chai tea is enhanced by addition of honey or sugar. Probably this is where western companies looked for inspiration, and spotting the popularity, decided to add commercialized green teas to the roster of products sold in western countries like the United States.

Now famous everywhere throughout the western world, green chai tea is an alternative to coffee for many people who seek healthy drinks that can keep them fit, without having to travel to the east. They are commonly found in the form of single-serve, ready-to-drink tea lattes. And as time goes by, the green chai tea industry is growing stronger day by day, because people who are very much concerned about their food intake and health and seeking drinks that can burn their fat or cholesterol and help boost their energy have realized that green tea derivatives fit the bill.

These green chai teas come in various flavors; just to name a few -- Kashmir green chai tea, spicy tea latte, organic green chai tea, and many more. Just like the original green teas, they are very high in antioxidants that are extremely useful to our immune systems. And most of them are so well packed that they can last for a long time, making the purchase economically wise as well as healthy.
