Green Tea Pregnancy

Green tea is one of the most popular teas in countries such as Japan and china. Green tea is the palest color ranging from light green tea to light yellow in color. The leaves of green tea are steamed and baked immediately after being plucked and then they are rolled and dried allowing the leaves to remain green in color. Green tea is even made from both new buds as well as young leaves. Generally green tea is used, as a traditional medicine is some parts of the countries that mainly helps people from controlling bleeding and helps to heal wounds to regulate the body temperature, blood sugar, and promoting digestion.

Green tea contains more negative impacts rather than positive advantages at the time of pregnancy. Pregnant women should take care about taking any green tea supplements and should limit drinking of green tea during pregnancy. In fact green tea consists of rich antioxidants and has a host of health benefits relating to blood sugar levels, weight loss, dental problems and cholesterol. But many researchers have found that the active constituent of green tea, the epigallocatechins may affect the way the body uses folate. Folate is very vital for pregnant women as it prevents neural tube birth defects in babies.

Taking the moderate amount of green tea at the time of pregnancy is fine. Woman can enjoy green tea while trying to conceive, as there is no harm in drinking a cup or two cups a day. But the significant increase odds of getting pregnant because the green tea contains caffeine and tannic both are linked to fertility problems and an increased risk of miscarriage when consumed in large quantity. The main problem of green tea during pregnancy is that the EGCG molecules are structurally similar to a compound called methotrexate. Methotrexate kills the cancer cells by chemically bonding with an enzyme in the body called enzyme dihydrofolate reductase.

Even healthy people contains the dihydrofolate reductase enzyme and it is part of the folate pathway, the body takes to transform nutrients like folate into something that can be used to support its normal function. Research studies found that drinking about 600 mg of caffeine a day, which is about six cups of coffee, would reduce birth weight to levels that were clinically important. The rate at which birth weight was reduced was recognized at being 28 grams per 100 mg, or 1 cup of coffee per day. This has been emphasized that this would not be significant for moderate caffeine consumption.

Pregnant women should avoid the drinking of green tea as it causes great damage to the baby at the time of pregnancy. Women have to reduce having green tea at the time of pregnancy if they are green tea lovers at normal time. Every pregnant woman should be aware of green tea impact on pregnancy period. It is highly recommended to pregnancy woman to give up their habit of drinking green tea at the duration of pregnancy period to have a beautiful and healthy baby.
